Buidling Dreams Together

After an 11-round shootout, Inter Miami and Lionel Messi win the Leagues Cup.

Is there anything the Argentine can’t do?

Shortly after arriving in his new club, Messi helped his new side win their first-ever trophy. Scoring in every single he has played for the club.

The Argentine sensation won his first trophy with the team and his first in the US by leading Inter Miami to a victory over Nashville SC in the 2023 Leagues Cup Final.

It was a thrilling contest which ended in a 1-1 draw but the result was later decided on penalties. However, Lionel Messi’s men edged the opposition by 10-9.

Drake Callender, the goalkeeper for Inter Miami, made two saves on Nashville midfielder Randall Leal and goalkeeper Elliot Panicco to hand his side the victory.

Messi scored the first goal of the League Cup Final, arguably the most spectacular of his MLS career thus far. In the 23rd minute, the 36-year-old dribbled past Walker Zimmerman and fired a shot into the top left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Leo has scored 10 goals in his 7 appearances for the club. He is also amongst the top 3 scorers for the club.

A one-goal lead is never enough, hence it was tied after the break by Fafa Picault in the 57th minute via a corner kick. The Inter Miami defence has shown weakness throughout the competition and it is something that they have to strengthen in the future.

This is the first trophy ever won by David Beckham’s Inter Miami. They debuted in the 2020 MLS season as an expansion team. It is also Messi’s 44th career trophy. Making him the most decorated footballer in history.

Before Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba joined Inter Miami, the team was having trouble this season. With a record of 5 wins, 3 draws and 14 losses. The team is currently last in the MLS standings, but there is still time for them to improve.

Messi and company will be back this week, as they face Cincinnati in the US Open Cup.
