Buidling Dreams Together

Who Will Replace Alex Scott at Bristol City?

Bristol City have submitted an offer for a midfield replacement, after Alex Scott fled the nest for £25 million.

Reports say that The Robins have bid £1 million for Bolton Wanderers midfielder George Thomason.

The 22-year-old has made over 50 appearances for Bolton since joining in 2020 and is described as an all-rounder with potential.

His manager, Ian Evatt, added that he had a “wonderful left foot”.

Alex Scott’s departure to Bournemouth has left a hole in the quality-filled squad, and Bristol City are also linked with other midfielders to fill the gap.

Who else is linked?

Callum Styles of Barnsley is another name being linked to the Southwest.

The versatile midfielder, who can play in the centre, on the left, in attack and as a defensive midfielder, is identified as a £2 million target, with Coventry City also interested.

Styles has made 124 appearances in the Championship across his career, and the 23-year-old currently plays in League One.

Ironically, his most recent appearance was against Bristol City’s rivals, Bristol Rovers, in a 1-1 draw.

Oxford United’s Cameron Brannagan is another player linked with The Robins.

The 27-year-old played against Bristol City in the recent Carabao Cup fixture and is attracting interest from several Championship clubs in recent seasons.

Brannagan has been a mainstay in the Oxford team since joining in 2018, making nearly 250 appearances for the U’s, scoring 41 and assisting 20.

The Robins have started the season strongly, proving their quality in depth with an away win against Millwall yesterday.

It is unlikely that they will be signing plenty of players, as manager Nigel Pearson prefers a smaller squad who is more versatile as opposed to many players sitting out.

With the transfer deadline less than three weeks away, The Robins should add another midfielder to the squad, and barring any late departures, is unlikely to add to their team further.
