Manchester United Defeat Liverpool In FA Cup Thriller

Manchester United edged past Liverpool 4-3 in extra time to reach the FA Cup semi-final in a thrilling tie at Old Trafford.

The home side got off to the perfect start after ten minutes. Scott Mctominay bundled home after Alejandro Garnacho’s shot was saved.

Mctominay could have doubled the lead but his close range shot was well saved by Kelleher in the Liverpool goal.

Liverpool found an equaliser just before half-time. Alexis Mac Allister’s shot deflected in off Kobbie Mainoo from inside the box.

The away side took the lead just a couple of minutes later. A mix up in the United penalty area saw the ball fall to Mohammed Salah who smashed the ball in with his right foot.

Liverpool controlled the second half and United looked tired. The away side were unable to kill the game off and wasted good opportunities on the counter attack to seal the victory.

United substitute Antony popped up with an unlikely equaliser. The Brazillian turned inside the box and found the bottom corner with his weak foot to take the tie to extra-time.

Harvey Elliott gave Liverpool a 3-2 lead in extra-time. His long range effort was not closed down and deflected into the far corner.

Liverpool once again had chances to finish the game off but were unable to do so. United found an equaliser when McTominay slipped in Marcus Rashford who finished neatly passed Kelleher.

The game looked as though it was heading to penalties until United hit Liverpool on the counter attach right at the end of extra time. Garnacho ran through and played in Amad Diallo who’s shot dribbled past Kelleber to give United the 4-3 win and send Old Trafford into delirium.

Manchester United will face Coventry City in the semi-final at Wembley whilst Manchester City will face Chelsea.
