Match Review

Burnley started the game very strong, taking the lead on the 11th minute through the form of a David Fofana wonder strike. The Chelsea loanee struck the ball in from outside the box, rifling the ball it into the back of the net, silencing the home crowd.

The relegation-threatened away team managed to double their lead, as Josh Cullen forced an own goal out of West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos. The greek international stuck his foot out in-front of goal, sending the Burnley captain’s drilled pass into his own net.

Half time struck and two West Ham players were pulled off, the poor preforming Kalvin Phillips and alongs side him James Ward-Prowse. Off the bench came Michail Antonio and Edson Álvarez. Meanwhile Burnley swapped Larsen for Brownhill.

West Ham began the second half with a much better morale within themselves and 1 minute into the second half, they found the back of the net. Lucas Paquetá won the flick on from Areola goal kick, this landed to opposition defender Lorenz Assignon who sent the ball back into the mix. Estève miss judged the young fullbacks header, giving Paquetá a clear 1 on 1 with the Burnley keeper. The Brazilian tucked the ball away to the left of James Trafford with no error.

With the game at 2-1 and 45 minutes still to play, the Iron’s were well and back in the game. However it was not that easy for West Ham, as a missed chances from Mohamed Kudus and woodwork misfortune due to Coufal cross left them frustrated. However, substitute Danny Ings finally broke through, latching onto Antonio chested pass with a poachers finish. Unfortunately for West Ham, the goal was ruled out by VAR due to Michail Antonio being offside from the free kick that created the chance.

In the dying ends of the game West Ham looked to be defeated, until Kudus played a ball into the box on the 91st minute which fell to Danny Ings who leathered it in on the half volley. Ings earned his team a draw against his former club.

Both teams leave the game with a point each, one who lost a 2-0 lead and the others who clawed back in the second half to insure they did not lose.
