West Ham 1-1 Aston Villa – Villa Come Back From Behind To Draw At The London Stadium As The Hammers Face More VAR Drama

Match Report of Premier League match between West Ham and Aston Villa.

West Ham drew against 4th place Aston Villa at the London Stadium. West Ham took the lead in the first half, but Villa scored back in the second. The hammers had 2 goals disallowed by VAR, adding to their misfortune with it this season.

Match Report

With a slow start from both teams, the deadlock was broken on the half hour mark. Vladimir Coufal received the ball to the right of the Villa box, whipping in a dangers ball that was met by the head of Michail Antonio. This is the Jamaican international’s first goal in the league since November 2023.

In the second half Antonio scored again, however VAR had its part to play in this goal as it was disallowed. With a big tussle in the box the ball had hit a West Ham hand. The game stayed at 1-0.

Deep into the second half Aston Villa played a long ball over the top from defence, reaching Moussa Diaby. Diaby drove the ball into the oppositions area, where he played a brilliant driven pass into across the box reaching Nicolo Zaniolo who tapped it in the net. The substitutes combined to make the game level.

Nearing the end of the game, West Ham had a free kick that was put in the box by James Ward-Prowse. the ball hit an Aston Villa defender which landed to Mavropanos, who threw both his legs at the ball to insure that it crossed the line. But, to West Ham’s ill luck, the goal was ruled out for hand ball once again as it hit Souk’s hand in the build up.

The game would finish 1-1.
