The Last Dance: Manchester City take on Liverpool in the culmination of an exciting managerial rivalry

Manchester City will visit Anfield to take on Liverpool in an exciting top-of-the-table clash at 3:45 PM EST on Sunday. With the Reds missing some big names like Allison and Trent-Alexander Arnold, City will be hoping to have an easier game. However, Klopp’s men have been resilient and have not put their foot down despite their recent struggles with injuries. Liverpool went into the Carabao Cup Final without Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Allison, but that did not stop them from defeating Chelsea and winning their first trophy of the season.

Manchester City go into the game against Liverpool with 5 consecutive wins. Their last loss came in December and it looks like the Cityzens are now on track to make another impressive run at the Premier League title. With all players fit and available, Pep will be hoping to field his strongest lineup at Anfield. Phil Foden is the man in form for the defending champions. The young English sensation scored two goals against Manchester United last weekend to make it 18 goals in all competitions this season.

Manchester City vs Liverpool Team News

Manchester City

Manchester City come into the game with a relatively strong squad. Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish were sidelined from the Champions League fixture against FC Copenhagen. Grealish is expected to be out for the game against Liverpool, while Doku could be a decision come game time. Kevin De Bruyne has been in stellar form since returning from an injury he suffered earlier in the season and City will be hoping for him to continue that against Liverpool on Sunday. He was systematically brought into the starting lineup after a run of appearances from the bench, but now the Belgian looks fit to fire on all cylinders.

Liverpool

Liverpool have been a team faced with a lot of injuries this season. The likes of Trent – Alexander Arnold. Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Allison and Joel Matip are expected to miss the game for the Reds. Ibrahima Konate who played the game against Sparta Prague, was subbed off due to injury. Manager Jurgen Klopp in his press conference said that he was not sure about the French defender’s availability.

The Last Dance of the Jurgen Klopp vs Pep Guardiola rivalry

This game between Liverpool and Manchester City is the last encounter between managers Klopp and Guardiola in the Premier League. The Reds manager last month announced that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, putting an end to a special stint at Liverpool. During this time, Klopp was able to build a formidable squad, which was competing against Guardiola’s City for the Premier League every season. Despite his best efforts, the German was only able to succeed once, but the rivalry between the two managers was exciting. Liverpool gave City a run for their money on every occasion the two sides faced and this Sunday it is expected to be no different.

Liverpool are currently first on the table with 63 points, but a result in the favour of City could turn things around. Both these sides have given some scintillating games over the years, but this being the culmination of the Pep vs Klopp rivalry could be the most exciting one yet.
