Manchester United Ease To 2-0 Victory Over Everton

Manchester United bounced back from their derby defeat with a crucial victory over Everton at Old Trafford.

The home side began the game poorly. United gifted Everton possession on numerous occasions in the first 10 minutes but the Toffees were unable to capitalise.

Alejandro Garnacho won the home side a penalty after 11 minutes when he was tripped in the box by James Tarkowski. Bruno Fernandes dispatched the resulting spot-kick comfortably by stroking the ball into the bottom right corner with ease.

United continued to struggle in possession and the away side squandered some good chances. James Garner’s long range shot was parried out to Amadou Onana who fired over from just outside the box.

The home side won their second penalty of the afternoon after 35 minutes. Alejandro Garnacho’s mazy run from deep resulted in Ben Godfrey tripping the Argentine to win a second spot kick. It was Marcus Rashford who stepped up this side and dispatched the penalty confidently into the bottom left corner.

United had a couple of chances to put the game to bed at the end of the first half but were wasteful in the final third.

The second-half was rather flat with neither team being able to threaten eachothers goals to any great degree. Jonny Evans made a couple of important tackles and blocks to keep Everton at bay.

Manchester United’s victory means they move to within 8 points of Aston Villa in 4th place, however, the reds have played a game more. Everton remain winless in the league in 2024 and sit just 5 points ahead of 18th placed Luton having played two games more.
