FC Barcelona’s Reunion Continues As Jordi Alba Is Inter Miami’s Next Signing

Inter Miami have announced the signing of Spain left-back Jordi Alba as he reunites with his former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.

The 34-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the 2024 Major League Soccer season with an option to extend until 2025.

Alba spent 11 seasons at Barcelona, winning six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey’s and one Champions League with the Spanish giants.

His former teammates both made their debuts last night in Inter Miami’s dramatic 2-1 win over Cruz Azul in the League Cup with Lionel Messi scoring a last-minute winner with a stunning free-kick.

“We know that he’ll help Inter Miami achieve the club’s objectives this season and beyond”, said Inter Miami’s sporting director, Chris Henderson.

“Jordi [Alba] is an accomplished, dynamic and experienced player that we are excited to acquire to continue bolstering our squad.

“He has proven for over a decade that he is one of the best left-backs in the sport due to both his defensive solidity and capacity to contribute in attack.”

The Spaniard should be available to face Atlanta United in the next round of the League Cup on Tuesday.

Alba may not be the last former Barcelona player to join the club with rumours emerging that 39-year-old Andres Iniesta could also be joining the club.

Inter Miami have additionally been linked with former Barcelona striker Luis Suarez, which club president Jorge Mas has spoken about.

“We haven’t held talks with Gremio or Suarez”, he said.

“I don’t know how Luis Suarez can leave Gremio but if he does, we are free to talk to Luis and bring him to Miami so that possibility would be there.”
