Devastating Bayern Munich sink Manchester United to a defeat

Bayern Munich dominate Manchester United as they win during the opening week of the Champions League group stages.

Bayern Munich vs Manchester United ended in an exciting 4-3 victory for the home side. A damning result for a Man United side who have struggled away from home for some time. Whilst the Bavarian’s left satisfied but with plenty to build upon. Yet Bayern navigated a potentially tricky fixture to leave with all three points.

First Half

Bayern Munich vs Manchester United began in a fairly slow fashion. The opening 20 minutes brought little action other than Facundo Pellistri’s and Christian Eriksen’s chance for Manchester United.

Erik Ten Hag’s men started brightly but this quickly collapsed. Leroy Sane opened the scoring for the Bavarian team in the 28th minute after an Andre Onana blunder. The Cameroonian deflected a simple shot into his own goal.

The Red Devils were unable to regroup. Jamal Musiala produced a moment of magic running down the left hand side before cutting the ball back for Serge Gnabry to slot it into the Man United goal in the 32nd minute.

Despite Bayern Munich not having been at 100% they end the first half 2-0 up and in command of the tie.

Manchester United left the field disappointed after a solid start to the game. Leaving themselves with everything to do in the second half.

Second Half

The second half saw a quicker starter. Rasmus Hojlund scored his first Manchester United goal in the 49th minute assisted by Marcus Rashford. Instilling some belief the Red Devils may get something out of this game.

However, this was quickly subdued after the Allianz Arena was sent into a frenzy when the ball struck Erisken’s arm in the box leading to a penalty for the home side. Some would argue it to be a harsh penalty.

Nonetheless, Harry Kane calmly slotted the penalty away into the bottom left corner. Leaving the score at 3-1 in the 53rd minute.

The Englishman’s goal seemingly zapped confidence from Erik Ten Hag’s side as a Bayern onslaught pursued. A flurry of chances came Bayern’s way as they dominated the ball. Yet, Thomas Tuchel’s side were unable to capitalise.

As the game dwindled down, Casemiro scored in the 88th minute to send belief into the system of Man United players and fans. Once again Bayern hit back immediately by a beautiful taken goal by Bayern’s Mathys Tels in the 2nd minute of injury time, seemingly ending Man United’s chance of revival.

But in typical Bayern vs Man United fashion, more goals came via Casemiro again in the 5th minute of injury time. Yet, this was to be nothing more than a conciliation goal.

Final Thoughts

Bayern Munich vs Manchester United presents two sides on very different paths.

Bayern Munich weren’t at their best but fully showed their quality throughout moments within the game. Particularly performances from the likes of Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane. Highlighting them as a force to reckon with further into the competition.

Whereas Manchester United once again looked well beaten with the 4-3 scoreline flattering their performance. Onana’s mistake set a bad tempo and put the Red Devils in a tough spot.

Yet throughout the game they looked consistently beaten, particularly in the midfield battle. One too many easy chances were conceded and capitalised upon by the quality of Bayern’s attack.

Not quite the Champions League classic the scoreline suggests, but a very telling story of how the season has been unfolding for both clubs so far.

Final Score:

Bayern Munich 4-3 Manchester United
