Celtic Push Motherwell Aside As They Continue Their Unbeaten League Start

Celtic made it 10 wins from 10 in the SWPL as they recorded an incredible 6-0 victory over Motherwell.

Celtic started the game well with strikers Kit Loferksi and Amy Gallacher recording chances in the opening minutes. Gallacher was the first to score out of the two as she opened the scoring with 13 minutes on the clock.

Four minutes later, Natalie Ross found Loferski in space and the striker made no mistake in doubling Celtic’s lead.

In the 22nd minute, Celtic would win a corner. Colette Cavanagh would send it into the box and it would find the head of Chloe Craig who put it in the back of the net with ease.

Shortly after, Paula Partido would find Loferski in the box as she took a touch and fired an effort into the back of the net to secure her brace.

Motherwell became a victim of Celtic’s relentless press shortly before half-time when Gallacher stole the ball from a defender. Now in a brilliant position, she slotted it into the net to round off an incredible first-half performance.

Clare Goldie, Jennifer Smith and Tiree Burchill replaced Cavanagh, Ross and Loferski for the second-half and it wouldn’t take long for one of the subs to make an impact. Burchill fired a low shot from an angle as the ball bounced off both posts before finally landing in the bottom corner of the net.

With Motherwell out of the game, Celtic manager Fran Alonso gave Maisy Stewart and Sophie Timlin their senior debuts in front of a home crowd.

After the match, Celtic captain Kelly Clark said: “It was a joy to watch the girls go forward, score good goals and see the work on the training pitch being brought into the game.”

Speaking about the depth that Celtic have in their squad, she said: “The schedule is hectic, to say the least. So to have players there that can come on and change the game if you need to change the game, or can come on and keep a performance going if that’s what we need to do is fantastic.”

Next up, Celtic are away to Partick Thistle on Sunday while Motherwell host Dundee United.

Celtic’s XI: Daugherty; Cummings (Timlin 77′), Clark, Craig; Partido, Shen (Stewart 57′), Cavanagh (Goldie 46′), Ross (Smith 46′), Menglu; Loferski (Burchill 46′), Gallacher

Motherwell’s XI: Mutch; Inglis, Addie, Watson; McGonigle (McCartney 66′), Gibb (Rafferty 85′), Rice (Anderson 46′), Collins; Boyes, McDonald-Nguah (Jardine 46′), Boyce (Cunningham 46′)
